Message from the President
Roswell Rotary Packs Warm Winter Gear for Star House A big thank you to all the Rotarians and volunteers who helped pack hats, gloves, socks, and scarves for the children of Star House! Through your hard work and dedication, we provided much-needed winter essentials for 109 boys and 109 girls in three Roswell-area elementary schools. This project was made possible by a generous $2,000 grant we received from the Rotary District’s Community Grant Program. With your efforts, we’re helping these children stay warm and cared for as they head into the colder months. Thank you again to everyone involved for making this project a success and for continuing to serve our community with kindness and compassion! This Week’s Meeting: The Power of Giving to the Rotary Foundation This week’s meeting highlights the incredible impact of the Rotary International Foundation and how, with your generous contributions, we can fund meaningful service projects in our community and beyond. Thanks to your support, Roswell Rotary received the maximum grants this year: a $2,000 community grant and a $5,000 competitive grant. These funds have enabled us to take on significant projects, including providing warm winter gear for children in the Star House program and building ADA picnic tables for the Chattahoochee Nature Center (the new Roswell Rotary Restaurant Stop). Your donations to the Rotary Foundation fuel projects that change lives, and together, we can continue making a difference locally and globally. Please consider giving and becoming a Paul Harris Fellow this year. Thank you for your commitment and for helping to ensure that Roswell Rotary can keep doing good in the world! Volunteer Here New Member Spotlight: Shannon Harrison, Co-Owner, Knuckies Hoagies Sharon was raised in a military family and was fortunate to live in a variety of states, including Oahu, HI. When her father retired, the family moved to Alabama. Until 2021, I lived and raised my family in Dothan, AL. My adult children include her son Brock, his precious wife Tori, and their grandbabies, Everleigh and Eli, as well as her two beautiful daughters; Lillie Kathryn and Sophie. Sophie is married to Sam Hughes.
Career-wise, Sharon worked as a paralegal for many years until returning to college to obtain an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Troy University, and a graduate degree from the University of West Alabama. The majority of her teaching career was in Dothan City Schools, with the last three at Mountain Park and Roswell North Elementary. In 2024, her sister Stacy (who also owns Buff City Soap) invited Sharon into a new adventure to open Knuckies Hoagies in Roswell Corners. She considers herself fortunate to have the ability to work with the public inside the store, network and meet new people within the community, and participate in a variety of volunteer opportunities. Serving others has always been an important part of her life, such as a PTA officer and Athletic Club Booster, for her Dothan Church family as a Contemporary Worship Service Coordinator, and Mentor / Tutor to underprivileged youth, and in Roswell with overseas mission trips. She's excited to be a Greater North Fulton County Chamber Diplomat, as well as a Connector with Roswell, Inc. Roswell Rotary was appealing to Sharon because it provides a community of people who see the value in giving back to others. She is looking forward to making new lifelong friends. RRAH - Next Meeting is Today, November 19th!
After Hours is pleased to welcome Captain William 'Sam' Anderson as the speaker for our next meeting! Sam is a Military Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army Reserves and has an extensive background in national security, gained through his service in the active-duty Army and civilian intelligence roles. Currently, Sam serves as the Bravo Company Commander for the 345th Military Intelligence Battalion, based at Gillem Enclave, Georgia, where he leads 100 intelligence soldiers, many of whom are currently deployed to the Middle East in support of live combat operations. Sam graduated from the University of North Georgia, where he majored in Criminal Justice and was a leader in the Corps of Cadets. He began his career as a Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) operations officer in the Georgia Army National Guard and, upon graduation, was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an Air Defense Artillery officer. In this role, he deployed to Israel and Kuwait. After leaving active duty, Sam earned a Bachelor of Science in Geography with a concentration in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the University of West Georgia and co-authored an Atlas of Georgia. This achievement marked a career shift into Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT), a field that leverages imagery, technology, and geospatial data to integrate mapping, charting, imagery analysis, and intelligence for understanding and visualizing human activities on Earth. Sam has served various government agencies as a Senior Cartographic Analyst, including the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the U.S. Department of State. In these roles, he authored and edited classified maps focusing on maritime, combat operations, and defensive interests for the Department of Defense. During his time at NGA, he was selected to join a competitive team conducting classified geospatial reconnaissance for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, among other sensitive assignments. Sam is married to Jessica, an environmental scientist, and is scheduled to deploy to the Middle East next year under an Army Special Operations Command mission.
